Elgin Passport Offices – Where to Submit a Passport Application in Elgin

A resident of Elgin has the choice of going to post offices drop-off a passport application for processing. However, Eglin falls into two counties, Kane and Cook, so residents have more post offices to choose from to submit their forms. There are other acceptance facilities designated to take applications; but, they do not operate with the same hours as the post office.

At each post office in Elgin, Kane and Cook Counties are agents who will assist with revising application, checking the supporting documents, and fee. Once the form is without errors and you have all the supporting documents, the agent will package them to be sent out to a processing center. If you don’t need your new passport in a rush, you can use conventional processing. If you do need it in a hurry, you can choose expedited processing, but additional documents are required as proof of travel.

Elgin Post Office Services

Routine Processing

After submitting your application at the post office, the conventional processing time is 4-6 weeks. This is considered regular processing, and it is for anyone who is not in a rush for a passport or does not have immediate plans of leaving the country. Although 4-6 weeks is the norm for processing, the time can exceed six weeks due to unforeseen events. Whenever this occurs, there is nothing that can be done to change the process. The best advice is to wait until the document is mailed to you.

Expedited Processing

Sometimes you come across a dream vacation deal and purchase it right away. Or, you have an emergency in your native country that must be dealt with shortly. As you make arrangements to travel, you realize that your passport will expire or has expired and you cannot wait 4-6 weeks for a new one. So, you must renew your passport by using expedited processing.

With expedited service, you can get a passport in 2-3 weeks, but you must provide proof of international travel. Without evidence, you will not be allowed to use this service. As evidence, you can submit a copy of your itinerary or E-ticket to help with speeding the process. If you have an emergency that requires for you to leave in 24-48 hours, then you must go to a regional agency.

Regional Passport Agency

A regional agency can get a passport in 24 hours, but it will cost far more than routine processing. To get an interview at an agency, you must call the National Passport Center. The operator will give you a list of which documents you must take with you at your appointment. In Illinois, there is the Chicago Passport Agency you can visit. You will submit the same documents as you would at the post office and your traveling itinerary. Once approved, you will have your new passport and ready to travel.

Other Acceptance Facilities in Kane and Cook Counties

Like the post offices, there are designated facilities to accept your application. In Kane County, you can visit the Kane County Clerk to submit your application and fee. The office hours vary, please call before going. There are other facilities like the public library and courthouse you may visit. Again, since these locations don’t have that many applications submitting forms, the hours and days of operations are not the same as the post office.

Now that you are aware of the assigned locations to submit your passport application start the process now, and soon you will have your new passport ready for your next vacation or emergency.
