Passport documentation is required for travelers who want to enter or re-enter the U.S. even if they are already U.S. or Canadian citizens.
Are There Passport Requirement Exceptions?
There is an exception to the passport rule when travelers are on an Explorer of the Seas Cruise to destinations including the Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean if the cruise is considered a closed loop cruise.
What is a Closed Loop Cruise?
A closed loop cruise is a cruise that starts from a port in the United States and returns to the same port upon the completion of the cruise.
What Proof of Citizenship is Required for a Closed Loop Cruise?
On a closed loop cruise, you will be able to utilize other forms to prove your citizenship aside from a passport or a passport card. Some acceptable forms of citizenship that will be accepted include:
- A Certified Copy of Your Birth Certificate Along With a Laminated Government Picture ID
- A Consular Report of Born Abroad Certificate
- A Certificate of Naturalization
What do we Recommend for Your Explorer of the Sea Cruise?
Even if you are traveling via a closed loop cruise, we strongly recommended that you travel with a current U.S. passport. If for some reason you miss a scheduled embarkation you would be able to travel to the next port without complications with a passport. Additionally, if you had an emergency or needed to return to the U.S. at any point during your trip, you would be able to board a flight.
Without a valid U.S. passports, scheduling emergency flights could be significantly delayed while verification is being made.
