Traveling to Montreal in Two Weeks – If I apply for my passport now but leave within two weeks what address should I use on the application?

Question: I am planning on moving from South Carolina to upstate New York which is closer to my parents home. They are getting older and I want to be able to look after them. I hear Montreal is a terrific city. Being so far north it seems that I may be traveling to Montreal. If I apply for my passport now but leave within two weeks what address should I use on the application?
Answer: This depends primarily on where you are most likely going to be in 4-6 weeks when the passport is processed and mailed back to you. If someone you know and trust is at your old address, then you can use that address. If you do not have anyone trustworthy at the old address, you may want to mail it to your parents home or your new home.
The fact is your address does not appear on your passort so the main issue is where you want to receive it.
Assume it will take 4 to 6 weeks for processing and plan accordingly.
You can also obtain a passport card. A passport card is more convenient to carry and is valid for travel in Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda at land border crossings or sea ports-of-entry. It s not valid for international air travel.
You can also expedite the passport process by traveling to a regional passport agency. You can obtain expedited service at these locations in one day. Just provide proof of departure dates and destinations in that case.
