Question: I am traveling to Singapore in 9 days and I must obtain my passport as soon as possible. I had a passport almost 18 years ago but have not used it and think I am beyond the time limit. Can I renew it easily? If so how? How much will it cost?
Answer: You must obtain a new passport as you have exceeded the acceptable time for renewing a passport which is 15 years. Since you are traveling very soon you will need to obtain “expedited service” at a local regional office. Although you did not state where you are, there are 26 regional offices. Also, one special issuance office within the U.S. that can handle “expedited service”. To see a complete list of those offices click HERE.
It is best to visit one of those offices and have with you the complete information required. (See this link for a full set of documentation needs)
Appointments are necessary at these offices. So, please look up the information in the link above and click through to the office most convenient to you. That page will then explain the telephone number, address and appointment requirements.
Be sure to fill out the form DS-11 in advance of the appointment and do not sign it until you get there. It is required that you sign the form in the presence of the passport agency representative.
The fees applicable will be $110 for the application, $25 for an execution fee and $60 for expedite service.
