Dartmouth College Study Abroad offers many options for students to study whether they feel comfortable traveling within the United States or if they want a thrilling trip to Thailand or Beijing. Regardless of a student’s’ degree option, there are many programs available for them.
Students can take part in an Off-Campus Program, Language Study Abroad (LSA), Advanced Language Study Abroad (LSA+), Foreign Study Abroad (FSPs), one of any of their 29 Exchange Programs, Transfer Term, or Internships and Fellowships Programs.
The Language Study Abroad Programs
The LSA and LSA+ programs enforce Dartmouth’s commitment of understanding and communicating with people of other cultures. As this undergraduate program has students live with a local host family. The reason being is that life with a local family gives students a raw exposure to a culture. Exposure to local cultures helps students immerse themselves properly. It also gives students a once in a lifetime chance to get learn a culture better which, in turn, gives them an intellectual grasp of historical and cultural patterns they might miss if they did not live in with a family.
These programs are available in Lyon and Toulouse France, Berlin Germany, Rome Italy, Barcelona Spain, and Buenos Aires Argentina.
Foreign Study Programs (FSPs)
These programs are offered in exciting locations such as Auckland, New Zealand, Accra Ghana, Beijing China, Hyderabad India, Cape Town South Africa, Rome Italy, Dublin Ireland, Sao Paulo Brazil and multiple European locations such as France, Germany, Spain, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, and Austria!
The objective of this program is to offer an in-depth experience of the day to day life and culture of the country of the student’s choice. The majority of these programs are conducted in the English language, so despite the exotic choices, there is some familiarity. The term program typically includes group excursions to sites of artistic, historic and/or natural beauty. As well as social interaction with locals to reinforce the idea of an in-depth experience.
