Susquehanna University holds the answer to this mystery with their innovative programs that offer something for all types of students. According to a new ranking by U.S. News & World Report, Susquehanna University is among the top universities with the highest percentage of students who study abroad.

Susquehanna was ranked No. 8 nationally among the more than 300 colleges and universities that submitted data. With their belief in the benefits of studying away and gaining those cross-cultural experiences, the liberal arts college has made it a part of their central curriculum.

The universities study abroad programs have them recognized more than once. In 2013, Susquehanna was acknowledge with the Institute for International Education’s highest award for facilitating study abroad opportunities and increasing students’ cultural competency as this is important for success in today’s global society.

Whether it’s exploring sandy beaches or climbing the heights of the Andes Mountains, Susquehanna wants students to be ready to explore all the world has to offer during their short collegiate years. Encouragement for this is profound on their campus as there is a weekly photo contest with different weekly themes like the sky, reflections, and photos of the countryside to encourage sharing and exploring.

Susquehanna University Study Abroad Programs

A unique aspect of the Susquehanna University study abroad program is their simplicity in study abroad options: GO Short, GO Long, and GO On Your Own Programs. The cross-cultural Global Opportunities (GO) program, otherwise known as study abroad program, was determine to expose students to different cultures, languages, and aims to teach students something about themselves.

In the fall of 2009, Susquehanna introduce the GO Programs and it quickly became a success. So much so that the program out grew the perimeters it once had. The experience now consists of pre-departure classes, a cross-cultural experience off campus that can be for credit, and a post study abroad reflection course. Students are influence by the Go Program and are successful in pursuing and achieving prestigious Fulbright Awards where eight were successful in the past four years!

GO Short Programs

GO Short programs are ideal for people who want to travel without interrupting their studies on Susquehanna’s campus in Pennsylvania. With options from two to six weeks long there is no reason why students shouldn’t spend their summers or winter breaks abroad with GO Short programs.

GO Long Programs

Susquehanna offers more than 12 semester-long study abroad opportunities in the U.S., Africa, Europe, Asia and Australia. Students have no limit to these programs. There are more than 50 off campus study abroad programs that are pre-approved by Susquehanna University.

For example, if students choose to study in China they can join the other 10 possible Susquehanna students who can study abroad at an English-speaking university that sits less than 40 miles from Hong Kong. Another popular option is an American-style college in central London at Regent’s University. Students should feel comfort in the fact that Regent’s University hosts international students from more than 100 countries worldwide.

Other options for long term study abroad programs are trips to Cyprus in the Mediterranean which boasts more than 300 days of sunshine each year. On the contrary is Scotland where Susquehanna students can explore 12th-century castles and cathedrals for the term.

Passports & Visas

Susquehanna University Study Abroad students must have a valid passport PRIOR to their departure. Obtaining or ensuring you have a valid passport is the first step to any study abroad trip. In order for a passport to be valid, it must not be expired. Also, it must not expire up to 6 months after you return from your trip. Passports usually take about 4-6 weeks to process. Though private and trusted, expedited services can be purchased if there is proof of departing in a short notice. Let us know if you need a passport or visa fast!
