The University of Washington is a distinguished public university that is no stranger to topping charts for their innovative education systems and public university facilities. The 2017 edition of the Best Colleges in National Universities ranked UW as number 54.

The University of Washington Study Abroad Program has also made charts as providing one of the best study abroad programs. UW encourages study abroad on their campus and provides a few unique programs for this. Students can be enriched by the Exploration Seminars which are a short 3-4, faculty led program that focuses on a specific theme relevant to the program location that earns students 5 credits toward graduation!

University of Washington Study Abroad Programs

Programs such as the Independent Learning Programs, WU Approved Programs, Exchange and Summer Programs are offered at the University of Washington. What sets UW apart is its wide range of opportunities to impact and transform lives of students. Students will find opportunities around the world through unique programs like Exploration Programs and IE3 Global Internships at students dispense. UW students also have Departmental Exchange Programs which allow them to study with peers in their field of study at nearly 80 different countries around the world.

Featured Programs

University Exchange Program

UW has more than 70 different student exchanges with universities all around the world. This experience is available to both undergraduate and graduate students in most fields of study. These courses are available in the Middle East, Asia, Africa, the Americas, throughout Europe, and Oceania including both Australia and New Zealand.

While the instruction for the courses is generally in the language of the host country there are a significant amount of partner universities that work with UW that offer courses in English.

IE3 Global Internships

IE3 Global prides itself on providing high-quality study abroad, internship, research, exchange, and faculty-led programs. With the University of Washington as a partner, UW students have internships in 50 different nations worldwide. Internships are available in a variety of non-governmental organizations, educational institutions, and private organizations around the world. In addition, programs are available truly all over the world as well as on the sea.

Students are expected and required to complete an academic project supervised by a UW staff member as a part of their internship requirements. Another perk to this program for UW students is that their financial aid eligibility remains the same as they take part in the IE3 internship program. Though many of these internships require a foreign language proficiency there are also many English language opportunities available. This program immensely assists students resumes and experience prior to graduation.

University of Washington Study AbroadPassports & Visas For Study Abroad

Every international trip begins with obtaining a valid U.S. passport, including students going through the University of Washington Study Abroad. Student visas are also a requirement typically if you plan to stay for over 90 days. However, it varies per country. Passports typically take 4-6 weeks to process. But in the event of needing it sooner due to a trip, expedited services are available.
