Chile Visa – How To Apply For A Chilean Visa

GENERIC VISA INFORMATIONWhen traveling to Chile all U.S. citizens need to have a current passport. If your intended purpose to go to Chile is for business, conferences, recreational or tourism reasons you do not need to obtain your Chile visa before arriving. You will receive a Tourist Card from the Chilean Immigration Department, which will allow you to stay for 90 days. If you need additional time after the 90 days you can apply for an extension of your stay, which will allow you an added 90 days. A fee is required in order to do this. Fees are payable to the Chilean Immigration Office, San Antonio 580, Santiago. They can be reached at 56-2-2550-2469. When you leave Chile you do need to return the Tourist Card to this office. Delays will result in your departure times if you fail to do so.

If you overstay in Chile you will need to pay a fine before departing. This fine can be paid at the Department de Extranjeria. You will need to file a complaint against yourself when doing this. Do not attempt to pay this fine at the airport, as you will not be allowed to do so. If this fine is not paid promptly or according to specifications the alternative process it lengthy and will delay your departure for up to three weeks. If your purpose is employment, academics or to reside in Chile you will need to obtain a visa ahead of time.
