Updated As of

Have you been thinking of a trip to Uruguay for some time now? Fortunately, you will not need to apply for an Uruguay visa for tourism and business purposes for up to 3 months. If you are traveling on official purposes, however, you will need to apply for an official Uruguay visa.
For an official Uruguay visa, you will need to provide the necessary documentation in order to obtain the visa. These documentations include (1) approved passport photograph, an original, signed United States Passport and a State Department Letter. A State Department Letter should be a letter from the United States Department of State that is addressed to “Embassy of Uruguay, Washington, D.C.” The letter should include the applicant name, passport number, reason for travel and travel dates.
Your passport should be valid and up to date. Below are some guidelines that should be followed before you go on your trip.
The validity of Passport- Your passport should have a minimum of 6 months validity left on it before you go on your trip to Uruguay. This will allow you to comfortably travel to Uruguay and neighboring countries without any issues. If there is less than 6 months validity, you may face issues when traveling.
Visa Pages- Uruguay, along with various other countries will require at least (2) blank visa pages in your passport when you travel to Uruguay. These blank pages will accommodate and visa stamps that will need to be stamped.
Transit Visa- A transit visa is needed when traveling to certain countries that want travelers to obtain a transit visa while they wait for their connecting flights. Ask you Airline Company about your flight’s details.
