Highlight Program: Havana, Cuba
This program focuses on learning Cuban culture and customs. As well as learning how and why the country has shaped and reshaped its regional and international landscape. So, the goal of the program is to show students firsthand about the country which much as been written, but little is widely known.
Sarah Lawrence College’s study abroad program in Havana is Havana’s longest continuously running study abroad program. There, students will find a home as they study at the University of Havana. Furthermore, the program is designed exclusively for Sarah Lawrence students. The college can offer a small, intimate classroom experience as well as full immersion into the Spanish language. While other courses include examining gender, health, education, and sustainable development through Cuban society.
In addition, the program has many excursions and educational trips. Also, it is infamous for having many visits to medical facilities, local schools, historic sites, caves, tobacco plantations, museums, Santa Clara, Trinidad, Cienfuegos, and the Valle de Los Ingeniou among much more.
Sarah Lawrence students have the option to spend a semester or a year abroad with one of the exchange programs available. Thus, these programs are both international and a few options within the United States that serve as a “study away” program.

Tsuda College, Tokyo, Japan
The Tsuda College in Tokyo Japan is a women’s only program. It was founded in 1990 by Umeko Tsuda, one of the first Japanese women to study abroad. The college has since then developed the program to its fullest including 20 other institutions around the world. So, there are four different undergraduate departments available for this program which reaches a larger audience of students. The Department of English, Department of International and Cultural Studies, Department of Mathematics, and the Department of Computer Sciences are all options for curious students who want to find a home in Tokyo, Japan.
