Question: I helped my child get a passport recently. We applied about 3 weeks ago. One of the supporting documents requirements was to document her age and U.S. status. For that so we included her original birth certificate. I now find I need her birth certificate for still another application but I have not yet received the passport we applied for and am unsure if I will get her original birth certificate back. Its been about three weeks and I am concerned. She also plans on traveling soon. What should do?
Answer: Normally the processing of a passport takes 4-6 weeks unless you applied for expedited service which it does not seem be the case. You should receive the passport in a week or two and if you have time it would be wise to wait to see if that occurs before taking extra measures.
With regard to the original birth certificate, you will receive that back. It may be mailed back in a separate envelope. We suggest you be patient for some extra time. If you cannot contact you regional passport agency here.
